Is fast food eligible on EBT xards

Q) Is fast food eligible on EBT xards

A) No, fast food is not eligible to be purchased with EBT cards. EBT cards can only be used to purchase food that is considered to be “eligible foods”. Eligible foods are defined as “foods for human consumption that are purchased for home consumption.” This includes fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, poultry, fish, dairy products, breads and cereals, and beans and peas. Fast food is not considered to be an eligible food because it is not considered to be food for home consumption. Fast food is typically prepared and eaten outside of the home.

In some areas, restaurants can be authorized to accept SNAP benefits from qualified homeless, elderly, or disabled people in exchange for low-cost meals. Households CANNOT use SNAP benefits to buy: Beer, wine, liquor, cigarettes or tobacco. Source: https://www.fns.usda.gov/snap/eligible-food-items
