How do I apply for food stamps?

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), also known as food stamps, is a federal program that provides food-purchasing assistance for low-income individuals and families.

Here’s how to apply:

  1. Contact your state or local SNAP office. You can find contact information for your state agency on the USDA website: https://www.fns.usda.gov/snap/supplemental-nutrition-assistance-program
  2. Complete the application. The application process may vary by state, but generally involves providing information about your household income, expenses, and assets.
  3. Submit the application. You can usually submit your application online, in person, or by mail.
  4. Wait for a decision. Once your application is processed, you will be notified of your eligibility for SNAP benefits.
